When IT Feels like God is SILENT
We’ll go through seasons in our lives when it seems like God is silent. We will pray but hear no answer. We will see more closed doors than opened doors, yet we are given no clarity on what the next door to pursue might be. We might be acting obediently, finding ourselves right in the place where God called us to be, but it seems like we are at the end of the road and God has withheld directions on what to do next.
God often uses times of dry, desert seasons in our lives to refine, prepare, and evaluate us before he brings us to the next chapter of our lives.
These times when we feel like the Lord is silent and we are left to figure out life on our own, we must remind ourselves that God is a good God who never abandons his children. He is doing something in the background that is better than anything we could ever imagine, and he has not abandoned you.
Rather than becoming passive in the season of waiting, God expects us to be faithful in our response to him. Here are 5 things you should do when you feel like God is silent in your life.
1. Worship
We are made to worship as humans, and just because our season of life right now is challenging to us, this should not stop you from living out your purpose of bringing praise and glory to his name. Find a song of praise that focuses on the holiness of the Lord and sing praises to him.
2. Pray Scripture
Even when it seems like God has not been answering your prayers lately, it’s important to stay in communion with your heavenly father. Find a promise in scripture and make it your anthem for this uncertain season in your life right now. I like to use
3. Remind Yourself of God’s Faithfulness
There’s no doubt God has done incredible things in your life in recent years. Reminding ourselves of his faithfulness to us in our pasts will bring us hope that God will consistently do great things in our future. I wrote out 12 different ways in which God has worked in my life on index cards and placed them around my room as reminders.
It’s during these types of dry seasons that you will be tempted to place your trust in anything but God. But the truth is, God is using this time to test you to see just how much you trust your creator. Continue to worship him, pray his word, and remind yourself of what he has done in your past, and walk forward in faith that he is doing something great.
